About

Mediterranean Greek street food has been around for more than a thousand years. Excavations in Santorini, Greece unearthed stone sets of barbecue for skewers used before the 17th century BC. The health benefits and nutritional values of the Mediterranean Diet has been known to man since the time of the Ancient Greeks, however the delicious aspect of Greek Street Food was actually invented a lot more recently on the 19th century and the so called Ottoman era. During the Turkish occupation of Greece, Hellenic traditional cuisine became a lot more influenced from the Islamic Middle Eastern culture leading to the invention of the Greek Gyros as well as a variety of other delicious recipes. Today it is believed that Greek Street Food is going under an evolution with modern Greek restaurants opening all over the world and serving souvlaki and gyros under a different, more contemporary style and concept. El Greco Arabia was the first restaurant of this kind to open its doors in the United Arab Emirates, leading an evolution of Contemporary Greek Street Food in the area of the Middle East
