Emirates Gas was established in the year 1974 through the vision of the late Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum who took the initiative to set up a LP Gas bottling company in Dubai as a joint venture of the Government of Dubai which was then called Calgas Bottling company. Emirates Gas bottling plant which operated initially near the Maktoum Bridge where the Dubai Courts stand today, was moved to Jebel Ali in 1981. Subsequently bottling companies were established in Ajman and Fujairah in 1982 and a distribution centre was opened in Umm Al Quwain in 1990 which has now been upgraded to a bottling facility. The Al Qusais distribution centre for catering exclusively to cylinder distributors in Dubai was opened in 1990 which gave convenient and easy access for the distributors. The EGAP (Emirates Gas Aerosol Propellant) processing facility was added in the year 1991 to the Jebel Ali plant, which was first in the region opening up a new market for EMGAS. EMGAS revamped its Jebel Ali plant completely during the years 2002 -2004 wherein many of the storage tanks were removed and new ones installed along with creation of additional tanker loading bays. A new cylinder filling carousel incorporating the latest technology and a modern administrative building was also commissioned as part of the revamp.
