About

Nursery

At First Steps Nursery and Pre-School, Abu Dhabi we go beyond the syllabus to nurture every child's potential, helping them be their very best. We provide a stimulating environment for children aged 24 months to 4 years in spacious classrooms, with a staff to student ratio of no more than 1:7.

Your child can attend for 3 or 5 days a week and you can choose timings to suit you. We have also made a bus Service available.

We offer a loving atmosphere where the children's well being is put first.

Situated in the Karama area, our school provides our children an enriching and charming education as they follow a broad and balanced programme based on the British Curriculum.

Within our welcoming and caring atmosphere each person is respected as an individual. We foster the essential human qualities of mutual respect, integrity, kindness, loyalty, self-discipline, independence, consideration and self-confidence, equipping our children to become internationally aware citizens.

We guide them to develop their full intellectual, emotional, aesthetic, moral and physical potential so that they learn, think and make responsible choices, expressing their feelings, thoughts and ideas with clarity.

Our pre-school is a very happy and secure environment in which all of our young children are encouraged to take part in a wide variety of learning opportunities.

We like to maintain strong links with parents as it is vital that we work together to ensure that our children progress in their development and learning. In the nursery, we try to encourage the children to become as independent as possible.

SCHOOL
KG 1 & KG 2

The day is more structured in KG 1 & 2 and children begin to conform to routines and attempt more formal work.

We carry on with handwriting exercises and introduce letter formation and initial solutions. There are many opportunities for developing speaking and listening skills during discussion sessions, singing and stories.

The children are encouraged to write alone and they do make some excellent attempt by using their words building skills. We introduce reading books when we feel that the children are ready.

In mathematics, we develop their mathematical language introducing maths activities practically. We start number formation and recognition and work towards addition. We talk about and introduce simple patterns and encourage the children to use mathematical ideas and methods to solve practical problems.

The children will be growing in their ability to speak clearly and confidently in different contexts, with attention to detail and increasing focus.

They will develop their listening skills in one to one and group situations, following instructions and making appropriate responses.

We practically work on our speaking and listening skills through stories, songs and sharing times.

At this stage in their developments, the children are moving from the concrete stage where they need practical help to solve problems, to the abstract stage where they use mental strategies to solve simple problems using counting, addition, subtraction, doubling, fractions. They begin to explain their methods.

We will be working on different aspects of writing, composition, spelling and punctuation, handwriting and presentation.
