About

The common conception of a lantern as a utilitarian light-giving device from olden times is not very accurate. In fact, decorative lanterns of various colours and forms have long been used to mark specific occasions across the world. They add a sense of piquancy and occasion to any celebration, be it a birthday party, an anniversary or even a casual dinner at home.
Celebratory lanterns have been a part of popular culture and mythology for thousands for years. For instance, Taiwan’s First Full Moon festival is celebrated by lighting hundreds of lanterns to send wishes closer to heaven so they can be heard. In Thailand, thousands of people gather to light lanterns during festivals because they signify longevity, fulfillment of wishes and release from sins. In China, lanterns are sent to light up the sky in celebration of the Chinese New Year. In Europe, flying lanterns have become a quintessential component in adding glitz and glamour to weddings and birthday. Around the world, these lanterns’ complex interplay of light, colour and movement conjure emotions of release, celebration, purity and acceptance.
