Kids Zone began in September 2006 with only two children registered in each of its two classes – “Bunnies”, for children three months to walking age, and “Tigers”, for two to four year olds. It was built in response to a need for a safe, fun and educational environment, where the free zone staff would be able to keep their small children while they worked. Throughout the course of that year, the Kids Zone enrolled 28 more children, including some whose parents worked outside the free zone. Both the parents and children were pleased with the nursery, and as word spread, the demand for space to accommodate more children increased.November 2007 saw the addition of another two classes – “Kittens”, for toddlers (15 months to two years), and “Lions”, to prepare three to four year olds (foundation age) to enter primary school; additional, qualified staff were hired as well. In September 2008, classes resumed, with enrolment at full capacity and many more children on the waiting list.Later that year, Kids Zone began the construction on a playground, to provide the children with rubber, grass and sand play areas in which to explore and engage in outdoor games and physical activities
