The Magrabi Company was first established by Dr. Amin El-Maghraby in Egypt in 1927. Proudly following in his father's footsteps, Dr. Akef El-Maghraby continued investing in the field of eye care services, and lay the foundation for Magrabi Hospitals and the Magrabi Retail Group, thus bringing the Magrabi name into prominence.

Born in 1940, Dr. El-Maghraby is the founder and chairman of the Magrabi Eye and Ear Hospitals and Centers in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. He also serves as chairman of Magrabi Retail, the mother company of Magrabi Optical.

Dr. El-Maghraby’s passion for eye care and his dedication to helping people led him to also found a number of non-profit hospital and facilities, including the reputed Al Noor Foundation in Egypt.

In 2004, a third generation member of the family, Amin El-Maghraby became CEO of Magrabi Optical.

The first Magrabi Optical store opened in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia in 1981 in direct combination with the local Magrabi Eye Hospital.

Since then, Magrabi Optical has expanded into Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE, making it the largest ophthalmic eyewear and sunglasses retail chain in the Middle East and North Africa, with over 160 retail outlets.
