About
Middlesex was established as a University in 1992. It is now widely regarded as an excellent international provider of higher education with an outstanding academic credential and highly employable and successful graduates.
The history of Middlesex University began in the late 1880s, when two educational institutions opened their doors in north London - St Katherine's College and the Hornsey School of Arts and Crafts. Both would become part of Middlesex Polytechnic, which was founded in 1973. Middlesex was awarded the title 'University' - by Royal Assent - in 1992.

Subjects
Programmes are offered in business-related disciplines such as Marketing, Management, Accounting, Finance and Human Resource Management, as well as in computing and informatics disciplines such as Information Technology and Business Information Systems. Furthermore, the University is one of only a few universities in the region that offer much sought-after programmes in Psychology, Counselling, International Tourism Management, Hospitality Management and in Media Communications. More than 1,000 successful candidates have graduated with the same undergraduate honours and postgraduate degrees in Dubai for which the university’s London campuses are highly reputed.
Recent Developments
In the academic year 2009-10, the Dubai campus has introduced two of the most successful programmes at the University’s home campus in London – the BA (Honours) Development and International Studies and BSc (Honours) Global Social Science. The three-year honours programmes combine the study of developing nations and with the study of global political systems and processes. They will prepare students for careers in international organisations, government departments, NGOs, humanitarian agencies, and policy and research think tanks. 2009 also marks the launch of an innovative and industry-focused undergraduate honours degree in Advertising, Public Relations and Media. These programmes add an even greater variety of opportunities for students looking for a stimulating career and excellent growth prospects.
More recently in 2010-11, Middlesex offered a new distinctive three-year BA Honours Journalism and Communication Studies degree for those aspiring journalists who want to write using traditional print-based journalism and digital-new media, and also to understand how journalism and other forms of media communication work. The University also launched two new honours bachelors degrees in Marketing and International Business. All three programmes have had significant enrolments in the initial semesters and are well on track to replicate their success at the London campus.
At the postgraduate level, the University introduced two programmes in fields of education and language training. The MA in Education focussing on Leadership Management and Change is designed to address the needs of those teachers, subject leaders, or educational administrators who are looking for a higher qualification that is both academic and practical, and of benefit to their community and their own careers. It is particularly appropriate for those motivated to bring about change while continuing to work in their professional environment. The MA TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) has been developed for native and non-native speakers of English who wish to develop their careers as teachers of English as a foreign or second language.
The new MSc programme in Computer Network Management programme equips its graduates with the skills to use computer network management tools and the systems and knowledge of current developments in information and communication technologies, standards and applications. In 2010, Middlesex was proud to introduce Dubai’s only psychology postgraduate programme - the MSc in Applied Psychology. The degree focuses on the application of psychological science to work and daily life and showcases the many fields covered by the psychology profession including organisational psychology, education, health, counselling, neuropsychology and forensic psychology.
2010 marks another significant milestone in the history of Middlesex University Dubai - we have expanded our campus facilities in Knowledge Village to include Block 17. The University will occupy the entire ground level facilities in Block 17 which will house a state-of-the-art lecture theatre, several new classrooms and faculty offices as well as our first dedicated postgraduate study suite.
Executive Education
The Business School offers executive education for experienced professionals with masters degrees in Human Resource Management and in Marketing Communications. Both programmes have the recognition of the top-most professional bodies in their fields including the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), respectively. Similarly, the newly introduced Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme is offered for practicing managers who seek to develop their strategic, entrepreneurial and consultancy skills in order to progress in an established company or to set up an independent venture. The MBA’s selective and multicultural cohort is given a unique opportunity to gain international exposure by participating in an overseas residential component in Milan or Paris.
