Inaugurated in 1976 by His Highness Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed AI Qasimi,the late Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah,
the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) International Airport is celebrating thirty five years of its existence. Over the years the
airport has been running secure, safe and efficient operations, and it has registered steady growth in passengers,
cargo and aircraft movements.

The Emirate of RAK, under the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of
Ras Al Khaimah and Member of the Supreme Council, continues to see strong growth in both commercial and
tourism sectors. RAK Airport is experiencing increased activity in line with this growth.

Located about eighteen kilometers from the city, the airport is not only modern with state-of-the-art equipment
and facilities but also boasts a 3,760 meters long runway capable of handling the biggest aircraft currently in
service. The present airport is set for more expansion in the coming years but currently consists of two passenger
terminal buildings, cargo terminal facility, taxiways, apron, fuel farm, airport fire-fighting service, aircraft maintenance
facilities, support facilities, access roads, car parking, control tower / technical building, administrative building,
security and staff accommodation and an aviation training facility.

Being strategically located between the East and the West, travelers from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the
Indian Subcontinent and the Far East have found RAK Airport a connecting point. Also, in the recent past RAK
Airport has become a gateway to the Emirates, particularly the contemporary and lavish resorts such as Banyan Tree Al Wadi, Banyan Tree Beach, Al Hamra Resort & Spa, Hilton Resort & Spa, Cove Rotana Resort, Golden Tulip
Resort and many more luxury resorts that will be opening in near future.

The management team at RAK Airport is working towards delivering a master plan that delivers the following in 2012;

Increased terminal capacity by 140%
7 new departure gates
40% increase in retail space
Food court
Business lounge
Increased car parking spaces
New duty free shops
In addition, RAK Airport will further enhance and develop airfield facilities such as new hangars, training facility, fuel farm with numerous fuel suppliers, new catering facility, airport trade-free zone, MRO facility, cargo terminal.

With prospects for continued growth in the regional for airports, RAK Airport is committed to providing quality facilities and services to meet the future air transport needs of the region. However, we are clear to develop a sustainable airport, which aims to balance the economic and social benefits to the region with the need to control and mitigate environmental impacts.
