Singapore tower is a unique manifestation of Singaporean identity within Arabic context. The design is principally a glass volume within a lattice box, the latter a nod toward traditional Arabic architecture, Vines dramatically cascade down the entire north façade, referencing Singapore’s famously verdant urban environment. This garden façade reaches the lobby by slicing the podium, itself covered in an elegant metal skin screened with image of Singapore orchids. The character of the lattice varies according to the program it encloses. The lattice on the feature façade is empty, exposing the vines cascading down its full length. The cells of the lattice on the remaining three façades hold either copper strips, glass, or nothing, depending on whether the lattice faces office space, garden space, or the building’s crown. The entire north façade is covered in a cascade of vines, referencing Singapore’s famous greenery. Vines grow down from planter boxes located approximately at each floor; the vines themselves are an especially tough and attractive species, Ipomea pes capris (”Beach Morning Glory”). The tower features retail space on the first floor, a Singaporean-style hawker centre on the second floor, and a full-featured health club on the sixth floor. Office floors feature numerous gardens and multi-storey verandas, providing a varied and pleasing work environment. The top floor features service offices and an expansive roof garden inside a luminous glass crown. The elegant, multi-layered Tower promises to be distinctive within Dubai, a welcome relief from the gaudy excess of typical Dubai developments and a worthy representative of the Republic of Singapore.
