The Special Needs Families ( SNF ) took its first step as a family when a group of families with special needs individuals resolved to begin a new chapter in the lives of the region’s special needs individuals. The first step in 2003 was motivated by a handful of parents whose aim was to achieve a sense of community for their special needs loved ones –this family now stands at over 146 members strong. The first step of the SNF has now traveled ( and continues to do so ) a great distance. The SNF group now hosts its own centre, THE SNF CHILDREN DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, a centre with the ultimate goal of integrating the special needs individuals into society as independent, motivated individuals. SNF aspires to better prepare its students for mainstream life via personal management, functional academics and society participation for leisure and vocational skill development. The Center is a dedicated facility for young adults with special needs who would like to enhance their lives by contributing to the community in their own special way. Qualified and certified staff members assist in escalating integration in mainstream society by imparting training specific to every individual’s potential and vocational needs.PHILOSOPHYThe aim of giving the special needs individuals a community has now given the region’s special needs individuals a unique sense of hope, a sense to cope with the lives they live. From children to adults, the family at the SNF has given the special needs community a new lease on life and the special needs have truly achieved what only the special can aim to do – redefine the possible. Special needs individuals at the SNF now find themselves confronting the tasks which were once deemed impossible and the family structure has ensured that all the individuals have been given the support and succor necessary. The events of the SNF are documented in the “Events Section” of this site and we welcome you to visit this truly unique, special chapter.
